WillyRodriguezWasTaken - Wetdream

Drained Adolescence Meets Pop Turbulence

Clanking symbols, shrieking guitar, drowning basslines, and heavy piano clamor away in electrifying Indie compositions. Garage production leads to a piercing distortion that permeates through every layer of the mix. These harsh instrumentals delineate ambitious Chamber Pop progressions as vocalist, Willy Rodriguez shouts in ringing refrains.

The use of strings, horns, piano, and acoustic guitar help build quite large Chamber environments, swelling with avidity before destructive distortion and hulking chorus's crash into melodrama. Each track offers an exciting propulsion of simple, yet effective Pop Rock assertions. However, many songs reuse progressions from previous material, acting as redundant strains rather than effective motifs.

The larger themes of toxic love, depressive episodes, and dependency soak the record with another layer of distortion, this time of the mental sense. Buckling instruments and lyrical themes are complimentary, exuding a potent desperation throughout. While this content is passionately executed, Rodríguezes' vocal and verbal capabilities leave much nuance to be desired.

Still, the simplicity of Wetdream is what makes it a perky Emo experience. Even though mixing issues and dispensable writing are apparent during the hour long play, overwhelmingly vibrant Indie Pop and a blaring vivacity are undeniable in their nature.
