Cime - The Cime Interdisciplinary Music Ensemble

Interdisciplinary Dissonance

Ambitiously dense, Cime flashes a great Prog sound through extensive Avant-garde arrangements and Latin Rock influences. Politically fueled narratives of lost identity and corrupt power systems flow disparagingly among discordant Punk passages.

At times an impressive eclecticism appears as a muscular brass section meets atonal electric guitar, colorful Latin drumming, and hefty bass arrangements. Coruscating synths complement upbeat progressions, adding atmosphere in bold environments.

While the main ideas are compelling, a tedious execution can limit the record's appeal. Lengthy progressions offer a greater variety to the sound but eliminate the necessary cohesiveness needed for such narratives. Also, a foul vocal performance flattens intriguing sections, becoming an insult to any attentive ear. Occasionally, the rawness of the vocals does lend itself to the ferocious emotions of the tracks, but more often than not remains callous.

In the end, Cime may be an unrefined collective, but make a diverting claim for Avant-garde and Art Rock. Their sophomore effort acts as a messy, but courageous exploration into dissonance, both musically and conceptually.
