Chat Pile - Cool World

The Slaughter of this New World

Cold metallics brush and scrape along burly kick bass, ambling among gazing guitar and Grunge vocals. The band commits to a raw sound, simple, but thorough in its heavy stroll of rhythm. Muscular mannerisms both instrumentally and vocally assist a substantial political conscience as singer, Raygun Busch slowly commits to nihilism amidst violent scenes and national tragedy. This gruesome imagery combined with a leaden Rock sound marches the listener into the trash compactor of reality.

On the topic of compression, the record makes an unfortunate turn with mixing. Sharp cymbals and grating guitar add a serrated atmosphere to Gothic tones, but muddle atop the mix, taking some power away from the bulky low-end. This deficiency becomes more apparent as the album's slurry tempos meet repeated refrains, leaving more notable progressions to be desired.

Before the 42 minutes are up, however, the impression of overt calamity and hulking habits has been made. The slow pace can be burdensome, but it is the gateway to the unfiltered, loaded, lethal, and "Cool" World of Chat Pile.
