Calliope Music Weekly Roundup
October 26 - November 8, 2024
Reviewed Albums
Laura Marling - Patterns in Repeat
Petite reflections on motherhood elegantly design soft acoustic passages. Although the record's minimalism leaves greater elaborations to be desired, Marling showcases an effective simplicity in Chamber Folk writing: a sleepy but wholly comforting pillowcase of unconditional love.
The Hellp - LL
As the fifth track title suggests, LL is a caustic project, filled with hissing synth tracks, bustling bass patterns, and clashing electronics. The duo scamper across Glitch and Indietronica paths, filling them with fuzz and a bullish syntax. Every song is springy, jumping along Four to the Floor rhythms and jerky chorus. An odd congealment occurs as similar sounds blend throughout the record, asking for a more fluent experience. Despite this and some unweathered vocals, each track remains elastic and texturally diverse, rushing the album into the heralded dance floors of 2024's Electropop scene.
