NF - HOPE

Michigan Rapper, NF Drops a Grandiose Showing of Bathetic and Hypocritical Pop Rap in his 6th Full Length Studio Effort.
Loud trap beats, climbing strings and ringing keyboard alternate with simple acoustic progressions, as NF displays a rapid flow of both braggadocious and self-conscious rhymes.

Starting with the positive, the production is clean, leaving no stretch marks or digressions from the sweeping pop refrains and expeditious rapping. NF's voice is also clear and quite capable, switching seamlessly from punctual rap flows to large, high-flown hooks.

Unfortunately, NF's apt voice and polished production cannot hide a serious case of unoriginality and sanctimony. The generic trap beats, umbrella string sections and formulaic instrumental developments flatten genuine efforts, overcrowding almost every track into a tedious blend of inordinate popular music.

NF also struggles lyrically, with bars plainly stating self-esteem issues, followed by straightforward attempts at self-confidence in his own abilities. The rapper also repeatedly speaks on his desire to stand out, not settling for money deals in order to maintain his own artistic integrity. However, throughout the project, NF routinely boasts of materialism, creating a stifling hypocrisy of mindset, all vocalized with little to no notable imagery or significant rhyme schemes.

All in all, NF presents a clean pop rap project at a glance, but the album is quickly washed away by colorless instrumentals and simultaneously confusing, yet dry lyricism.
