yeule - Softscars

Computerized Pop Reflects Pulverizing Wounds

Cerebral atmospheres drift via pure minor chords, echoed ambience, sanguine keys, and rhythmic glitches. Cogent Pop progressions are paired with thick shoegazing, maintaining a dreamy playfulness throughout.

Softscars is superlative when levitating environments, acute refrains, and hazy instrumentation work in unison. Compounded by a phantasmagoric image pallet of robotic love and fleshy trauma, the 40 minute album quickly fashions a magnetic aesthetic.

However, the project often relies on its aesthetic to its own detriment. Where somber poetry meets cute vocals and intriguing Indietronica textures, overplayed verse drowns in unappealing autotune and trudging Indie developments. The several instances of hackneyed songwriting drag down an otherwise galvanizing character.

Altogether, yeule's fourth LP is an enticing alternative Pop project. Although the writing takes significant dips into the mundane, a consistent creativeness in atmosphere drives it above most contemporary comparisons. This ultimately makes Softscars a notable dive into an ethereal friskiness.
