Jeff Rosenstock - HELLMODE

Blazing Pop Punk Anthems of an Anti-Preacher

A fervent buzz of guitar, loose drums, and distorted melodies lead upbeat Indie Rock grooves and powerful Punk refrains. Rosenstock forms commanding choruses alongside gritty guitar play and cymbals that ring through every layer of the mix.

The structure of the music is simple, but exceptionally effective. Full throttle assaults of addicting bass lines and memorable Pop developments usher exuberant tones, despite darker lyrics.

Speaking of the lyrics, Rosenstock makes all sorts of commentary, from screaming regret, to self-empowerment, and even the injustices of America and Capitalist society. Although the wordplay is dull, a certain candor adds fuel to the fire that surges throughout the 40 minute album.

Overall, HELLMODE is a bouncy and quite fun Pop project that exhibits a particularly charming honesty. Even with its fair share of overblown vocals and predictability, the project persists with adroitly produced Rock instrumentals and unwavering conviction.
