The Sophomore Effort for Hyperpop Sensation, 100 gecs is a Genre-Hopping Collection of Slapstick Stories, Hyper intensive Choruses and Electronic Tomfoolery
While brief in length, 100 gecs packs many different genres into this astoundingly energetic and free-feeling LP. The first few tracks serve as more traditional electronic hyperpop licks, full of boastful digital bass and the duo's signature high vitality and sarcastic hooks. The only real consistency throughout this album is its high quality production and use of heavy electric guitar, which continues on the loud and abrasive nu metal inspired tracks at around the half way mark. The rest of the project is compiled of upbeat alternative rock tunes, focusing on humorous anecdotes of human-like frogs, MF DOOM references, money, fame, and teeth removal surgery. While an eclectic array of influences, catchy pop refrains and unadulterated personality make 10,000 gecs a fun listen, cartoonish effects and an overall lack of depth pull the project down towards novelty.
