Depeche Mode - Memento Mori

Seasoned Synth Pop Duo, Depeche Mode Embraces the Inevitable on this Articulated Darkwave Endeavor.
Industrial zips flicker across brimming bass beats and downtempo synth movements. The duo makes use of nostalgic electric guitar and fragile drum patterns to bolster bumpy, yet eerie electronic arrangements. Although the group has aged significantly since their popularity in the early 90s, lead singer Dave Gahan still delivers a hauntingly handsome performance.

As the title suggests, the lyrics dive into what makes humans human; death and desire. Blunt stories detail leery love and the acceptance of certain death. These lyrical packages are largely incipient, but the dark context of the overall sound gives greater spirit to vague concepts.

Memento Mori sees Depeche Mode run with vintage synth pop sounds. This decision is endearing but at times can result in tracks lacking new and original sentiments. Even so, Depeche Mode's introduction into the decade remains a cool flash of snappy industrialism.
